Veteran Packer Could Be Gone Soon

GREEN BAY, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Desmond Bishop appears to be on the chopping block for the Green Bay Packers. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says the team will either trade or release the veteran inside linebacker, if they cannot get him to take a pay cut.

Bishop is in the third season of a four-year, 19-million-dollar contract. He’s due to make almost three-and-a-half million dollars this year. Bishop missed all of last season after hamstring surgery, and the Packers have reworked contracts for last year’s final starters at inside linebacker – Brad Jones and A-J Hawk.

Bishop tells the Journal Sentinel he’s completely healthy after his surgery from a year ago. He said it’s still possible that he’ll be back with Green Bay, his only N-F-L team.

The Green Bay Packers have four more private practices before their summer break. Yesterday, the team held its final O-T-A workout that was open to fans and reporters.

Coach Mike McCarthy, who’s starting his eighth season in Green Bay, says he’s never seen the rookies mesh better with the veterans at this early stage. McCarthy said the team seems to have quote, “a different edge … a higher sense of urgency than I can recall.

The coach admitted that he didn’t know how to measure it and quote, “Maybe it’s my higher sense of urgency.”

Both McCarthy and quarterback Aaron Rodgers have high words of praise for first-round defensive end Datone Jones. Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin expect to be deep in the competition at running back, when Packer Training Camp opens in late July.
