ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WSAU) - Rev up those bikes and ride for a good cause this Saturday. It's the annual Veteran's Benefits Ride.
It's the 6th annual event in connection with Harley's Heroes. Troy Torgerson from the Never Forgotten Honor Flight says it all got started by bringing out the mobile service bus from Disabled American Veterans. "That was the start of this event. We usually help out 20 to 25 vets every year." The DAV helps veterans work VA claims and other issues that they may have getting the help they need from the government.
The main draw though is a day long ride from Harley Davidson of Wausau to the King Veterans Home near Chain O Lakes in Waupaca. Riders will have lunch with the veterans there before making a poker run back the Rothschild for a party at the Bar at Cedar Creek.
There might be a chance for rain on Saturday, but that's something Torgerson says is just fine with him. "Those guys, when they went out, had to deal with much worse than a little rain." He also notes that bikers don't usually have a problem with bad weather in the first place.
Registration starts Saturday morning at 8am, with the ride starting at 11am. The cost is 30 dollars per person, and that includes admission to the afterparty at 8pm.
