Segura Still Trails In All-Star Voting

MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) If the fans don’t elect Jean Segura, the Milwaukee Brewers hope their fellow National League players will choose him as the league’s starting shortstop in the All-Star Game.

The latest round of fan voting has been released, and Segura remains in third-place behind Brandon Crawford of the Giants and front-running Troy Tulowitzki of Colorado. But Tulowitzki expects to miss the July 16th Mid-Summer Classic due to a broken rib. If he’s elected and cannot start, the players choose his replacement.

Crawford leads Segura by 150-thousand votes, but Segura is the only big leaguer with both 10 homers and 20 stolen bases this season. Brewers’ catcher Jonathan Lucroy says both Segura and center-fielder Carlos Gomez should make the National League All-Star team, based on the years both are having.

Gomez sprained a shoulder yesterday, and Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke says it could be a day or a week before he returns. Gomez is 11th in the voting for the three starting National League outfield spots.

Ryan Braun dropped one place to fifth this week, after going on the disabled list with a hand injury. Lucroy remains four among catchers, and Aramis Ramirez is fifth among third basemen.

The Brewers are off today, and will host the Chicago Cubs tomorrow night.
