Gun from backpack confirmed stolen from Condition One

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Wausau man picked up by the State Patrol last Friday with a backpack containing marijuana and two handguns now has an attorney.

22-year-old Landorous Kirkwood is the man charged with theft of movable property with special facts, possession of marijuana, and carrying a concealed weapon. Kirkwood failed to appear for a pretrial hearing Thursday, but now has public defender Austin Mort assigned to his case. Judge Greg Huber set a July 22nd hearing to determine if Kirkwood must forfeit his ten thousand dollar signature bond.

The .45 caliber handgun from Kirkwood’s backpack has been traced. Wausau Police Captain Bryan Hilts says they know where it was stolen from. “We had four firearms that were stolen in a burglary from Condition One in the City of Wausau, and of those four firearms, that was the last one that had not yet been recovered.”

The .22 caliber handgun in Kirkwood’s backpack was not stolen.

Both Wausau Police and Wisconsin State Patrol confirm the investigation is not over. Both agencies believe other people are connected to the crimes.
