WESTON, WI (WSAU) - It’s been one week since Kira Trevino was seen alive. In the past seven days, her husband has been arrested for murder and her family members in central Wisconsin are trying to come to grips with the loss. A prayer vigil was held Friday evening at Bethany Baptist Church, just a half mile from where Kira Trevino graduated high school in 2001.
Although it’s now certain Kira Steger Trevino is not alive, Pastor Aaron Winowiski told her family and friends that God’s love wins out in the end. Kira’s younger sister Kari Anne Steger told the congregation her sister would want not want them to cry. "You can cry and close your mind and be empty and turn your back, or you could do what she would want.... smile.... open your eyes... love."
Bethany Baptist Church's affiliate, New Day Christian Church communications coordinator Amy Auner says the church and the community have been there for the Steger family. "In addition to people that go to our church, there are a number of people that don’t even know Kari Ann that well that came to be, came to be just supportive of them.”
The prayers, hugs and the tears help them cope, but the family still needs one thing to help them heal. They need to find Kira.
