WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Over 1000 runners turned up on a chilly Saturday afternoon to help raise money for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight.
Officials says the 4th Annual Honor Flight 5K Run Walk had 1071 participants this year. Runners braved the cold to catch the first big race of the year in central Wisconsin. Mike Zamzow from Bull Falls Brewery says it was a great turn out. "This has become very popular in the area, so there's a lot of enthusiasm. Everyone's a little stir crazy from winter."
Funds from the race will go towards providing free flights to Washington DC for veterans from World War II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Four full flights for vets have been booked through the end of the year.
