WESTON, WI (WSAU) - A Weston man faces federal charges for illegally possessing a gun silencer. 30-year-old Jason Trempe has been charged by U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil after an investigation that led police to the illegal weapon accessory November 19th of last year.
Trempe could get 10 years in a federal prison if convicted. Only police officers, on-duty soldiers, and people with an extensive list of federal registration forms have been allowed to own silencers in Wisconsin since 1991.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Weston Police Department, and Everest Metro Police Department gathered the evidence for the case. Trempe’s next court date has not been set.
