Many of the biggest names in rock assembled at New York City's Madison Square Garden on December 12, 2012, for a massive benefit concert to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  But the event could have made even bigger headlines.  A new report reveals that former President Bill Clinton actually tried to get Led Zeppelin to reunite for the fundraiser.

Enlisting Clinton to persuade the members of Zeppelin to perform apparently was the brainchild of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein , who is a board member of concert organizer the Robin Hood Foundation.  Robin Hood Executive Director David Saltzman tells the CBS online series 60 Minutes Overtime that Weinstein "had this great idea that we could enlist Bill Clinton to convince Led Zeppelin to reunite to perform at the 12-12-12 concert."

According to Saltzman, Clinton was going to be seeing the band's surviving members at the 2012 Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C.  A big Led Zeppelin fan, Clinton was thrilled to ask Robert Plant , Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones if they would participate.  Unfortunately, even a personal invitation from the former U.S. president couldn't convince the rock legends to hit the stage together.

Paul McCartney , The Rolling Stones , The Who , Eric Clapton , Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen were just some of the many superstars who did take part in 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief , which was televised live around the world, and has gone on to raise more than $50 million for the victims of the destructive storm.
