Three more Sheboygan kids infected with tuberculosis

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WTAQ) - Three more youngsters in Sheboygan have come down with tuberculosis, after a similar case was confirmed last month.

Officials say all four are in the family. Three of them attend Sheboygan South High School, and the other goes to a middle school.

Sheboygan County health officer Dale Hippensteel says the county has 8 active cases of TB infections – and they’re all from the same extended family.

TB can be life-threatening if it goes untreated. It can be coughing, sneezing, or even talking.

Officials tested about two dozen students who go to class with the first infected youngster – and all those kids were all negative. Officials say they plan to test students who take at least two courses a day with the newly-infected students.

The eight TB cases are an unusually high number for Sheboygan County. They normally get three cases or less each year.
