Oak Creek police officers receive commendations at White House

WASHINGTON, DC (WSAU-Wheeler News) - Eight police officers who responded to the Sikh temple shooting in suburban Milwaukee last summer were honored at the White House yesterday.

President Obama singled out Lieutenant Brian Murphy, who was the first to arrive on the scene. He survived 12 gunshot wounds. A gunman opened fire at the temple in Oak Creek last August, killing six people and injuring three more, then turning the gun on himself.

President Obama spoke for about 15 minutes before meeting with the officers. Honored were Murphy, Sam Lenda, John Finco, Julie Grauberger, Dean Kleinhans, Michael Shultz, Derick Slamka and Kelly Romel.
