ST. PAUL, MN. (WSAU) - People in central Wisconsin have been paying attention to the St. Paul Minnesota case of Kira Steger Trevino, the woman originally from the Wausau area whose body was found in the Mississippi River in St. Paul last Wednesday. Family, friends, and total strangers had helped search for her since early February.
The Twin Cities area was actually trying to solve three unrelated cases involving missing women. On Friday, Danielle Jelinek’s body was located in a swamp behind the home of the top suspect in Chisago County, just over the Wisconsin border. The man now charged with killing her is already in prison on an unrelated drug charge.
That leaves 24-year-old Mandy Marie Matula of Eden Prairie. She has been missing since May 1 and was last seen with her ex-boyfriend David Roe. Roe talked to police, and then killed himself in a parking lot.
Now, the searchers that helped look for Kira Trevino are helping search for Matula. That includes Trevino’s father Jay Steger, who says, “We’re just trying to pay it forward.” Kira’s relatives from Texas joined Jay and Wausau area family members in the search for Matula over the weekend.
