WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WTAQ) - A Wisconsin Rapids man is scheduled to be sentenced Monday for shooting his best friend to death while drunk.
23-year-old Tyler Enkro was convicted in Wood County of shooting 31-year-old Nick Hoffman of Wisconsin Rapids in the neck in December of 2011.
Hoffman died a short time later at a Marshfield hospital.
Enkro’s blood alcohol level at the time was 0.17, more than twice the legal intoxication limit for drunk drivers.
The defense says both sides are recommending five years of probation for Enkro. Prosecutors have also suggested a year in jail.
Enkro pleaded no contest to homicide by intoxicated use of a firearm. A companion charge of homicide with a prohibited blood alcohol level was dropped in a plea deal.
