Mayor: A business is ready for the new Stevens Point industrial development

by

STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) -  Stevens Point is planning to vote Monday on creation of a new tax incremental finance district to cover the new East Park Commerce Center expansion. The 762 acre industrial park will have room for one or several large developments along with access to rail, I-39, and utilities.

Mayor Andrew Halverson says once they formally create the TIF district, they have a business that is interested in locating there. “We do have our first project that we’re looking at right now. It’s about a 17 million dollar project with about 30 new jobs.” The Mayor says once the city formally completes the TIF district, they can proceed. “We do have a project that is ready to roll, and I know those principals are ready to get that project underway. Once the TIF is created, we can finalize our developer agreement and move forward with getting that done.”

Halverson says they are working with Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to market the East Park Commerce Center globally to businesses that are seeking a large, ready-to-build site. “We are positioning ourselves very well with this business park. It will outsize anything within central Wisconsin, and in essence, anything in the state.”

The Mayor could not disclose the name of the potential business developer or what type of business it is. He says the specifics must wait until the TIF district is formed and the formal development agreements are in place. Halverson believes we won’t have to wait long to find out.

Mayor Andrew Halverson updates several issues in the attached interview.
