Residents, law enforcement gather to remember fallen officers in Wausau

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - It was a somber day on the 400 block as members of the community gathered to remember fallen law enforcement officers.

Around 100 people gathered for the Marathon County Law Enforcement Memorial. State supreme court justice Ann Walsh Bradley told the crowd that she's honored to be able to help remember those officers who have given their all. "All of us take that oath to uphold that rule of law, whether we are on the front lines or sit behind a desk with a nice library."

Police chief Jeff Hardel says the memorial also gives officers and the community a chance to remember officers that not only die in service, but who face danger and fear every day.

The Marathon County sheriff's honor guard delivered a 21 gun salute to the five officers who have given their lives in Marathon County, and the Wausau police honor guard raised the flag for the ceremony.
