WAUSAU, WI (WSAU)
Wausau East High School announces the resignation of Dan Bauer as Head Boys Hockey Coach. Coach Bauer has been in the position for the past 11 seasons. Mr. Bauer will continue to teach in the district. He has said he is interested in applying for the assistant coaching position with the Central Wisconsin Storm which his daughters play for.
Coach Bauer leaves after leading the team to many very successful seasons. Bauer’s 2010-11 team finished with 20 wins (a school record) and, over the last 4 seasons, the teams 55 game win total was the most in school history over any four year period. Most recently, Coach Bauer’s Lumberjacks received the prestigious honor of being named the State Academic Champion by the Wisconsin High School Hockey Association for having the highest team grade point average in the state. It was the second time that his teams have received the honor.
From Athletic Director Greg Harvey:
“Coach Bauer has always been committed to the development of the total student-athlete. He placed high expectations on his players both on the ice as well as in the classroom. His leadership in our hockey program will be sorely missed. I know that this was a very difficult decision for Dan and that leaving East Hockey was not an easy thing for him to do. He is a highly respected teacher and coach, and we are very appreciative and thankful for all he has done for Wausau East Lumberjack Hockey over the last 11 years.”
The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
