WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Wausau's Red Eye Brewery is planning to add some solar electric panelling to the facility this summer.
The brewery received around $29,000 in energy grants to pay for the project from various sources. Spokesman Kevin Eichelberger says Greensky Energetics will be doing the construction, the same company that installed a solar water heater in 2010. "We found out those guys really handled the project well and were timely, so we didn't have to look far." The new project will be installed in the parking lot of the brewery in order to capture solar power that normally would go to waste.
Owner Brett Danke says it's the right thing for the company. "It's got 42 solar panels that will be piped back to the meter to reduce our overall electrical consumption in the restaurant." The total expected power return for the brewery is around 9.8 kilowatts, enough to offset a good deal of the energy the facility uses to brew beer.
Total cost for the project is around $43,000. Construction will start later this summer.
