WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - It was a good turnout on a cool day for Wausau's annual Memorial Day ceremony.
About 200 people attended the event at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery. Spokesman Chris Pavlovich says they're happy to host the event. "We want to be able to show our gratitude for those who have served our country by putting on an appropriate service for them."
Keynote speaker US Navy Physician's Mate George Flynn told the crowd that people should remember not only those veterans who have served in the past, but those leaving the service now. "That's my message. Remember the veterans." Flynn served in the Korean War in the special Navy group tasked with collecting and cataloging the war dead.
Groups from across the area helped run the event including the Men of Honor Society, the American Legion and the Boy Scouts.
