WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - Catholic Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke is in Wausau this afternoon. The Stratford native is helping commemorate the 10th anniversary of St. Mary’s Oratory.
The Cardinal also presided over a confirmation ceremony earlier today, and is leading the 4:00 p.m. mass.
It was exactly ten years ago today that Burke elevated St. Mary’s to an Oratory while he was a Bishop. This preserved St. Mary’s as a place to participate in Latin mass services.
Cardinal Burke has been promoted within the Catholic Church several times since his days in central Wisconsin. He was also the Bishop of the La Crosse Diocese and then Archbishop for the St. Louis Diocese prior to becoming Cardinal.
