Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington ’s High Rise EP may have had only five cuts on it, but guitarist Dean DeLeo says the guys have plenty of ideas ready for their next release. “When the session for the High Rise album was moving along, we put together just pretty rough ideas,” he tells ABC News Radio. “We put together like 10 or 12 ideas that are maybe like 70 percent there. So it’s just about going [in the studio] and honing them in.”
DeLeo adds while everyone brought some ideas for tracks to the table, new frontman Chester Bennington was especially inspired during their recording sessions for High Rise . “The hardest thing about the session was trying to wrangle him in,” he explains. “The guy was just bursting with ideas. After we established the four songs we wanted to record, he would just continually just bring in like two or three new ideas every day.”
The guitarist says he’s impressed by Bennington’s commitment to the group, noting the singer’s always up for working on new cuts for STP, even when he’s out on the road with Linkin Park . “He blows my mind that guy, he’s just like, ‘That’s ok, just send me stuff I can record it out on the road,’” reveals DeLeo. “He really is a pretty focused, amazing individual. He just has like real beauty, real courage and he doesn’t allow much to stand in his way.”
