Trial dates set for Tyshun Meeks in heroin death of Justin Selves

by

WAUSAU, Wis (WSAU) - A man already in prison for drug charges still has to face a judge and jury for related charges. Over two years after a Kronenwetter man died of a drug overdose, the Illinois man who supplied the drugs has new trial dates set.

27-year-old Tyshun Meeks is accused of supplying heroin which killed Justin Selves August 4th of 2011. Meeks has already entered no-contest pleas for drug trafficking, but the charge of first degree reckless homicide by delivering drugs is going to trial.

There have been several delays, from replacing defense council to a denied request to get a jury from outside of Marathon County.

The new trial dates are June16th through 20th of next year, nearly three years after Selves’ death. There will also be a pretrial conference December 20th.

Meeks is already serving 15 years in prison for trafficking to be followed by 10 more years of extended supervision. During that first sentencing, Judge Michael Moran told Meeks he could have been successful at anything, but he chose to be a drug dealer. The judge has also admonished Meeks for previously changing defense attorneys often. Prosecutors have also tried to put Meeks away for as long as possible, saying the public needs to be protected from a man who believes Selves’ death was “good for business” because it showed the purity of his heroin.

Three other parties are already in prison for their part in the drug ring and supplying Selves with heroin. They are Brittanie Robbins of Mosinee, plus Kevin Mason and Melonie Brown of Wausau.
