WAUPACA, Wis (WSAU) A Clintonville woman entered a not-guilty plea to charges of animal neglect yesterday after five malnourished horses were found on her farm. 71-year-old Barbara Thiry was charged last month, although there had been complaints about the condition of her animals from earlier this year.
Waupaca County sheriffs deputies went to her farm after they were tipped off by the Kewaunee County sheriffs department. Deputies there were investigating conditions at a farm Thiry had recently sold. The buyer discovered four horse-heads in the old home, and a horse carcass in the barn. Charges were never filed because it couldn't be determined how the animals died.
In Clintonville court records say Thiry's horses didn't have proper food, water, shelter, and dental care.
She's due back in court November 13.
