WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A new President and CEO has been selected for the Wausau Region Chamber of Commerce. He’s Aaron Kapellusch, and is already working alongside the retiring President Jeff Zriny. The transition is going smoothly, which Zriny says is an advantage he didn’t have back when he began as President. “It was difficult. It was a slower learning curve, so this will help in a month’s time help get Aaron up to speed much faster than it took me.”
Aaron Kapellusch is originally from Racine County, and has a variety of business experiences in both the service and manufacturing sectors. “I’ve worked in both the service industry and in manufacturing. I had my own landscaping firm when I was in college, and got an opportunity to move up to the northwoods back in 2005 for a marketing manager position in Lakewood, Wisconsin, and remained in the area both in that capacity and also as a business development person for an analytical lab in Crandon.”
Zriny says the Wausau Chamber Board of Directors created a strategic plan about a year ago, which he has been going over with Kapellusch. He says a big part of that plan is to help area businesses find good, skilled workers. “Aaron will be leading the charge on evaluating our workforce development and education strategic initiatives with a subcommittee of the board, and really getting into what we can do to help our existing members, businesses find good workers.”
As for Jeff Zriny’s retirement, don’t look for him to slow down much. He plans to stay active and to put more time into his favorite charity, the Never Forgotten Honor Flight program that takes veterans to Washington D.C. to see their war memorials.
