Sex offender to be released in Wausau

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A convicted sex offender is scheduled for release in Wausau a week from tomorrow.

Wisconsin’s Department of Corrections says 25-year-old Christopher S. Bungert from Rothschild has served his prison sentence at the Redgranite Correctional Institute, and will be released to transitional housing in downtown Wausau November 19th.

Bungert was sentenced in February 2006 to 30 months probation after his prison time. He was 18 when he forced a 17-year-old girl to have sex with him.

If Bungert fails to comply with the terms of his extended supervision, he could end up back in prison for five more years. He will be wearing an electronic monitoring device.

Bungert’s address will be kept current on the state’s Sex Offender Registry when he is released. That website is www.widocoffenders.org.
