PLOVER, Wis. (WSAU) -- A young man that was working as an intern has been charged with stealing from his employer.
19-year-old David Kalenga-Kasongo is accused of stealing 117 gallons of gasoline from the Portage County Highway Department during August. Kalenga-Kasongo lived in Madison and drove to the Highway Department facility in Plover four times a week.
Neighbors reported suspicious activity in nearby woods, and investigators used hidden cameras and a GPS tracking unit on the highway department truck used by the suspect to catch him stashing gas cans in the woods.
Kalenga-Kasongo is charged with misappropriating identification information, theft of movable property, and misconduct as a public employee. He is presently free on a signature bond, and will have his initial appearance in court November 25th at 1:30 p.m.
Highway department staff estimate the value of the stolen fuel at $400.
