PIERCE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Another deer hunter was shot and wounded in Wisconsin Wednesday morning.
Pierce County authorities said 45-year-old Tad Eggenberger of rural Ellsworth was shot in his lower waist by a stray bullet from another hunter in his party. They were on a deer drive when the incident occurred around 8 a.m.
He was flown to Regions Hospital in St. Paul Minnesota with undetermined injuries. Sheriff's officials said the incident was deemed to be accidental, but it remains under investigation.
Six hunters were wounded during the opening weekend of the nine-day gun season. We've had no reports of any hunters being shot to death.
Hollywood actor and Tomahawk native Jay Leggett collapsed and died last Saturday while returning to his hunting cabin. That's been the only reported death so far.
The gun season runs through Sunday.
