10th OWI lands Plainfield man in prison

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - A man convicted of driving drunk for the tenth time is going to prison.

51-year-old Mark Schulke of Plainfield will spend the next five years behind bars, and then another five years on extended supervision. Schulke also has $2,400 in fines to pay.

Schulke was last picked up in April of last year when he drove his truck into a tree in Almond. Prosecutors say Schulke has drunk driving cases dating back to 1993 plus several other crimes on his record including burglary, armed robbery, and domestic abuse going back to the early 1980’s.

Mark Schulke has been consuming alcohol since he was six years old, and followed in his alcoholic father’s footsteps.

Schulke’s ten year sentence wasn’t as harsh as it could have been. Judge John Finn could have given him seven and a half years in prison with another five on extended supervision, but told the defendant to take advantage of drug and alcohol programs in prison.
