by

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (WSAU) - One person is dead and another injured after an early morning traffic crash in Clark County Wednesday.

Deputies were called about a vehicle driving through yards in the Town of Pine Valley shortly after 1:00 a.m. A Clark County deputy sheriff was on his way to investigate when he met the suspect vehicle on South Mound Road as it crossed the center line, nearly striking the squad car.

The deputy pursued the suspect, who ran a stop sign at high speed, entered the ditch, and overturned several times about 3/4 of a mile west of Highway G.

The driver was a man from Neillsville. He was killed instantly. A passenger in the vehicle was seriously injured. Names have not been released.

Investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. This is the eighth fatality for 2013 in Clark County.
