WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - While many of us are thinking about Halloween, there is a group of people already working on making Christmas better for families that are struggling financially right now.
It’s called the Salvation Army Angel Tree, which will be set up at the Wausau Center Mall soon. Colleen Hilber says they want to find out this week how many families could benefit from the program. “If they are in need of Christmas assistance to help their family have a little bit better Christmas, and they’re in a hardship right now, we are accepting applications to try to help you with Christmas toys for the kids.”
Hilber says the Angel Tree seeks businesses and families that help sponsor the families in need. She says signing up this week helps them find enough sponsors to grant more help. “What you need to do is come in and fill out an application. Bring in your Social Security cards, proof of income, and proof of Marathon County residence. Come in anytime between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 103 South 2nd Avenue. Fill out an application, and we will help make sure your Christmas is a better one.”
Hilber says they are also signing up volunteers to man the famous red kettles in front of businesses this holiday season, and she is in need of a lot of bell ringers. Volunteers for bell ringing can call Colleen at 715- 845-4272 extension 106 to set up times and places.
