OWI suspect drunk at sentencing hearing

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Here’s some advice for people facing the judge for operating while intoxicated: Don’t show up to your sentencing hearing drunk.

That’s exactly what a Stevens Point woman did. 44-year-old Raquel Hurd was facing her fifth drunken driving charge. In a Thursday plea deal, she pled no contest to the OWI charge, and the operating a vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration and possession of marijuana charges were dismissed. She did however get an additional misdemeanor charge for misconduct in court for showing up for her sentencing while drunk.

Hurd will spend the next two years in prison followed by three years of extended supervision. She will also have to stay below a point-02 blood alcohol concentration when she gets out of prison. Once out of prison, Hurd will have no driver’s license for three years, and after that, she cannot drive a vehicle without an alcohol sensing starter interlock device.
