WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Marathon County United Way want you to nominate neighbors and friends who can't rake their lawns for the annual Make a Difference Day in October.
Volunteer director Shelly Kaiser says the program is there to help seniors and those with disabilities who can't manage the task of yard clearing anymore. "And that's a task that really weighs heavily on the homebound. It really provides peace of mind as well as getting yards prepared for winter." The program will pair up volunteers with yards that need cleaning in the autumn.
Kaiser says you can sign someone up for the program who might not call on their own. "Do you know somebody who might benefit from this project? Because we know that seniors like to be as independent as they can be, so they might push themselves harder than they need to."
People who need help, would like to volunteer or who want to nominate a friend or loved one for the project can call 2-1-1 and sign up.
Yards will be raked the week of October 22.
