Third day of testimony complete in Trevino trial

ST. PAUL, MN (WSAU) - The trial of Jeffrey Trevino is into it’s second week in St. Paul, Minnesota. Yesterday was the jury’s third day of hearing testimony.

The court heard from the Mall of America security guard, who ticketed Kira Steger’s white Chevy Cobalt for parking in the ramp too long. This guard and the tow truck driver gained access to the car and found blood stains and the blood stained trunk liner that was tossed into the snow.

St. Paul Police investigators said they found bags, insurance cards, divorce papers, and Kira’s social security card in the car. Kira Steger’s store manager Ryan Wendt also testified that he had an affair with Steger.

The court also saw surveillance video prosecutors claim shows Trevino buying gas and riding in a taxi after the crime as prosecutors laid out their timeline of what they believe happened to Kira Steger.

St. Paul Police investigators told the court about DNA evidence and blood samples found inside Kira Steger’s car they say match her blood.

The jury also saw surveillance video from a gas station which prosecutors believe is Jeffrey Trevino getting gas while disposing of Kira’s body. Another video by a homeowner across the street from the Trevino’s rented home shows a taxi driving by, and then a man with similar clothing to the gas station video entering the Trevino home.

Prosecutors estimated the trial would take between two and three weeks to complete. Trevino is accused of killing his wife and former Wausau area native Kira Steger last February 22nd. Her body was found in the Mississippi River May 8th.

The eight men and six women on the jury will hear more testimony beginning at 9-o’clock Tuesday morning.
