Testimony in Trevino trial expected to wrap up Monday

ST. PAUL, MN (WSAU) - The testimony is nearly over in the Jeffrey Trevino murder trial in St. Paul, Minnesota.  So far, there's a lot of circumstantial evidence, and prosecutors are trying to expose faults with Trevino’s comments to investigators.

The state’s last witness took the stand Friday, and will be back in the witness stand Monday. He’s retired police sergeant John Wright.  Wright interviewed Jeffrey Trevino for about four hours after Kira Steger went missing and Trevino was arrested. Monday, the defense will cross examine Wright and then bring a short list of witnesses to Trevino’s defense.

Attorney John Conard must tell the court Monday if Trevino will take the stand in his own defense. Many observers predict he will not take the stand, since it would force Trevino to answer questions about evidence like blood in the trunk of the car and home, the hooded sweatshirt he bought seen in surveillance videos, multiple trips to the same gas station in the same day, and the cab ride home from where Kira’s car was found.

The jury could get the case by Tuesday.
