UPDATE: The state DOT says I-39 has reopened, and an earlier truck accident has been cleared. The truck driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and was taken to Wausau-Aspirus Hospital. The driver's name has not been released.
ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WSAU) -- Highway 51 and I-39 is blocked this morning in the northbound lanes by the Wisconsin River bridge at Rothschild.
Marathon County Deputy Matthew Bell is at the scene. “There was one semi headed northbound on 51, and it rolled over, assuming due to the road conditions.”
The tractor driver apparently lost control on the icy bridge deck. The rig landed on its right side, with the tractor on the beam guard in the median, and the trailer hanging into the right ditch. Emergency crews can’t even get around the wreckage.
About a dozen semis that were not involved in the crash are backed up between the wreck and the northbound Cedar Creek Business 51 exit. Traffic is being routed north on Business 51 through Rothschild to Highway 29 west back to 51.
