WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- There is now a challenger in the race for the 85th Assembly district.
Dave Heaton announced his candidacy during a gathering at the Jefferson Street Inn in Wausau Thursday. Heaton says he’s getting involved to help make Wisconsin more prosperous for the next generation. “Frankly, I want my kids and all of the kids in the 85th District, and frankly, all of the kids in Wisconsin to grow up with a more promising, prosperous future, and so that’s why I’m throwing my hat in the ring.”
Heaton, his wife Stephanie, and three young children live in the Town of Wausau. He has past experience with the Air National Guard, and worked as a prosecutor in northern Illinois until moving to the Wausau area seven years ago. “I hope that I’m going to bring my skills from my profession as a reinsurance consultant, where I deal with a number of different people and a number of different interests, and I have to form coalitions. I hope to bring those skills, the team building skills that I’ve developed throughout my career to work for the people of the 85th District.”
Heaton is on the Republican ticket, and is challenging Democratic incumbent Mandy Wright, who is seeking her second term in the 85th District.
