Pat Bloom. Each UWSP player will sport a special military jersey that will be up for auction during the games. All the proceeds from the jersey auction, sponsored by the National Guard, will go the VFW Relief Fund. "We wanted to not only raise money to help those in need, but to raise awareness of the cause, so that we will continually be conscious of the need to take care of those who have so selflessly risked their lives to take care of all us," said Bloom. Inspiration for the event came from former UWSP players Adam Saeger and Josh Perkins, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, respectively. Saeger, a certified Blackhawk helicopter pilot, was a member of the Pointers 2010 World Series team and was deployed to Iraq following the season. Saeger, a Chief Warrant Officer 2 (CW2), completed his tour of duty this past fall and returned to UW-Stevens Point to complete his degree. Back at UWSP, he initiated the idea of finding a way to give back to veterans who may have fallen on hard times. As part of the event, the Pointers are offering FREE admission to all current and former members of the armed forces, as well as all kids 12-and-under.
