ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WSAU) -- Investigators have talked with over forty people about the shooting in the parking lot of a Rothschild bar over the weekend. Rothschild Police Chief Jeremy Hunt says they are not sure what started the altercation outside of P.J.’s Log Jam at about 2:11 a.m. Sunday. “There was a fight involving a number of individuals, and during that, the altercation that had taken place, there was a firearm that was discharged.”
Hunt says several people have come forward to tell officers what they saw and heard, but he’s inviting anyone with additional information and observations to contact either his department, or the Marathon County Crimestoppers anonymous tip line. Hunt says the disagreement in the parking lot appears to have been between two individuals, and the shot from a handgun wounded a third man.
21-year-old Eugene Higgens and 17-year-old Aljerrek White were taken into custody for disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer during the investigation at the scene. Chief Hunt did not say if Higgens and White were the two people fighting or if one of them fired the handgun.
Hunt says with investigators still gathering information from witnesses, it’s too soon to release any specific details about the incident. “I was hoping to have more information to provide to the media today, however, there’s a large amount of follow up that’s being completed to this case, and individuals that we’re talking to in reference to this, so at this point, it’s still under investigation and I do not want to release any information that would affect the integrity of the case.”
Hunt says the 25-year-old man that was shot was injured in the upper thigh, and is expected to be released from Aspirus Wausau Hospital by Monday evening. Hunt says they have been communicating with the gunshot victim.
