WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- Marathon County deputies are now on the lookout for a fugitive accused of attacking a woman in 2013.
34-year-old Robert Woods is charged with attempted robbery with threat of force, strangulation and substantial battery. Woods had been scheduled to come in for a motion hearing in July but never showed up for court and his attorney said he couldn't find Woods. There is now a bench warrant out for his arrest and he's forfeited a $25,000 bond.
Police say he attacked a woman at the Paff Woods Nature Preserve on the city's east side. The victim was about to leave the park when a man came up from behind her, tried to strangle her and force her down an embankment. She was able to escape. He fled in a car.
A police report says Woods approached the woman earlier that morning in the park and ask if she'd like to walk together. She said 'no' and he walked away on a different path. The attack happened when the two crossed paths again some time later. The motive for the attack is not clear.
