TERRE HAUTE, IND (WSAU) After being pounded by Midland Michigan on Saturday the Plover American Legion baseball team will get another crack today, and will have to be them twice. Plover stayed alive on Sunday in the Great Lakes Regional with an 8-5 win over Newburgh Indiana.
Mitch Mallek had a grand slam as Plover built a 7-0 lead. Newburgh rallied with 5 in the eighth and had the bases loaded when Ryan Makuski pitched out of the jam getting a line drive that turned into a double play.
Nick Lillenthal pitched the win, working seven plus innings.
Plover has to beat Midland twice today to advance to the American Legion World Series next week in North Carolina.
