Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer says work on the band's next album is well underway.

Speaking to Australian website Noise 11 , Klinghoffer says the band is "working every day writing."  The work is in the early stages and instrumental only at this point, he says, but the band has been in bass player Flea 's home studio, laying down elaborate demos.

"We've written, musically, 30 songs now," he says. "We sort of did this last time, which was my first album [with the group].  We piled a s**tload of stuff on [singer] Anthony [ Keidis ] and he actually came through.  He wrote lyrics to 50 songs in the end."

Although work is progressing with the rhythm section on the followup to 2011's I'm with You , Klinghoffer says he's not sure if it will ultimately involve longtime Chili Peppers' producer Rick Rubin . "That is sort of up in the air still," the guitarist says. "Normally, he becomes involved in the arranging process, but he has yet been, which is good for me.  I like the way we are doing it so far."
