STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Monona man accused of beating his girlfriend with a bat and tying her up during a fight stood mute at his plea hearing on Monday.
33-year-old Jason Hyatt is charged with attempted 1st-degree intentional homicide, 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety, intimidate victim by use of force, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and felony bail jumping. A judge entered not guilty pleas on all charges.
A criminal complaint says Hyatt attacked the victim in a Plover apartment, and beat her with a metal baseball bat wrapped in a towel, tied her to a towel bar, and forced her to take sleeping pills.
Hyatt’s original trial was delayed when a key witness could not appear in court for medical reasons. The delay would have violated Hyatt’s right to a speedy trial, so Portage County prosecutors had to drop the charges and refile them.
A trial date has not yet been set. Hyatt remains jailed on a $250,000 bond.
