WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WSAU) Large parts of Wisconsin Rapids were left without electricity after an early morning thunderstorm. The storm hit around 4am, and high winds brought down tree limbs across the area. Wood County dispatchers say many traffic lights are out.
There are tree limbs and power lines down across Riverview Parkway in Wisconsin Rapids. The eastbound lanes have been closed between 16th Street and County Road W.
Wisconsin Public Service says at the height of the storm 7,000 of their customers were without power. The hardest hit areas were Bancroft, Rhinelander, and Junction City. There were scattered outages reported in Stratford, Wausau, Stevens Point, and Tomahawk.
