UNDATED (WSAU) -- A medical group has updated a website to help people see actual prices for many of the procedures offered by hospitals. The Wisconsin Hospital Association and their WHA Information Center has made changes to WiPricePoint.org.
WHA’s Senior Vice President of Finance Brian Potter says the revamped website helps consumers know what many procedures cost at specific facilities, and helps people understand how health plans have changed dramatically under Obamacare. “As healthcare reform is going on, we’re seeing health plans changing, and so transparency and understanding all of the things that are changing is becoming more and more important to that individual consumer.”
Potter says the new WiPricePoint.org website also has a great deal of educational information about various health insurance plans, which can be complicated. “Another new feature of Price Point is to try to educate and walk the consumer through other things that they might need to know in terms of things like, if you’re insured, your plan design, which hospitals are in your network, all of those kinds of things, copays and deductibles. Those are the kind of things that also impact the consumer.”
Potter says it’s not always possible to compare prices for all procedures, but it usually is for elective surgery and diagnostic work.
