STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- A leak in the roof at the City-County Building in Stevens Point has prompted some accelerated changes in the Clerk of Courts office.
Clerk of Courts Patricia Baker says the department was undergoing some improvements, but water coming through the roof forced more changes. “Well, we just got finished putting carpeting down, and moving people’s desks around. The last desk went in and the leak came.”
Baker says the shuffling of desks and the need for repairs actually has a silver lining because it made the perfect opportunity to move up a future project. “Because of the rain, and we’ve been thinking about this but the rain sort of moved up our timetable a little bit, but we’re actually going to make an office where we can do passports a little more efficiently, and a little more privately, which is really the important thing. People come in with families to do passports. They don’t want to be standing next to people filling out bond papers, so we’re actually going to be able to create a private space for people to do their passports.”
The passports area will be where the public records access was located just off the main lobby. A completion date for the work has not been set, but isn’t expected to take long.
