WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- A fundraiser is happening in Wausau Wednesday to support the Veterans of American Legion post. Dave Maas operates Bunkers Restaurant at Tribute Golf Course, which is the former Legion Golf Course. He says it is the Dick Dudley Memorial golf outing, which is raising money for the local Montgomery/Plant post. “It’s more of an event regarding fundraising for the Legion, and not really about the golf per say. We’re tying that in because, as you might recall, Dick Dudley is the one that saved the golf course and the property back in the spring and his family approached us and asked if we could do an event here to honor the Legion folks, and we were happy to oblige.”
The golf outing is the first one organized for this purpose, and Maas says the 72 open spots went fast. “We filled up pretty quickly, actually. There’s a big interest to help the Legion folks and support our troops past and present, and if they (the public) wants to stop down, they can pay $100.00 and be part of the dinner, beverages, and awards part, raffles and auctions, and things like that.”
The awards portion of the program begins at around 3:30 p.m. Former Green Bay Packer Bill Schroeder will also be participating in the event.
American Legion Golf Course was acquired by Wausau entrepreneur and philanthropist Dick Dudley in March 2013. The 1,200-member Montgomery/Plant Post 10 continues to meet and use the facility.
