Logging Congress gets new name, promotions boost, and new show location

UNDATED (WXPR) -- A new name, new location, and a little state promotion money are the main components of the Great Lakes Logging and Heavy Equipment Expo next month.

The event has been known for decades as the "Logging Congress", but as Great Lakes Timber Professionals Executive Director Henry Schienebeck explains, the event has evolved with the hope of finding new visitors.  "With this JEM grant we're able to reach a lot more markets and do a lot more advertising for the show and hopefully that's going to draw in a lot more local people to support the Association and helping us protect the multi-use forest for future generations."

Joint Effort Marketing, or JEM grants, are state grants administered through the Department of Tourism and are used solely for promotion of events. This year, the EXPO is being held at the E.A.A. grounds in Oshkosh. Speaking from the headquarters in Rhinelander, Schienebeck says the promotion money is designed to bring new visitors to Wisconsin.  "We're able to target some folks that we haven't been able to do before throughout Michigan and a lot of the urban areas and bring more people into that Oshkosh area by using that grant and getting more people into the state to see what this area has to offer."

The Great Lake Timber Professionals Association is a nonprofit entity designed to enhance the forest products industry through public education, training and sustainable forestry practices to encourage the forests' renewable resources.

The grant was for $21,000. The EXPO is September 5 and 6 in Oshkosh.
