Two animal death cases in court at the same time

UNDATED (WSAU) -- Two of central Wisconsin’s most controversial animal abuse cases have appointments with a judge Monday.

In Portage County, 26-year-old Cody Phillips is accused of killing his dog with a hammer for defecating on the floor of his home. Phillips will make an initial appearance before Judge Thomas Eagan at 1:30 p.m.

Phillips skipped out of a court appearance and was picked up by officers for violating his bond last week.

21-year-old Sean Janas is charged in Marathon County with poisoning and stabbing her ex-boyfriend’s dog Mary, and writing in her diary about how she enjoyed torturing the animal. Janas has a final pretrial hearing at 1:30 p.m. so attorneys can make final arrangements before her March 17th jury trial.
