MEDFORD, Wis. (WSAU) -- A trial date has been set for the Medford area man accused of shooting a deputy sheriff. 28-year-old Alexander Schneider is accused of several charges including attempted first degree intentional homicide. He was involved in a shooting with Taylor County deputy Chad Kowalczyk September 8th when the deputy was investigating Scheider’s violation of a restraining order.
Schneider was previously ordered by the court not to have contact with an underaged girl he had been having sex with since she was 13-years-old. The girl told investigators Schneider forced her into his car and threatened her with a machete after the court order was given.
Schneider shot officer Kowalczyk in the abdomen, but told investigators the first shot was intended for his face.
Judge Ann Knox-Bauer set Schneider’s trial to begin July 21st in Taylor County. He remains held on a one million dollar cash bond.
