WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) -- The problem with frozen pipes is getting worse in several communities.
The Village of Weston has changed their position, and is now asking all village residents to run a continuous pencil-sized stream of cold water from one faucet until further notice. They had been asking only selected residents to run water to prevent water mains from freezing. Between 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. on Friday another 5 freeze-ups were reported. The Utility has noted that freeze-ups have expanded into widespread areas of its service area in the Village of Weston and Village of Rothschild. Frost depths are now reported as low as 7 feet in paved areas where snow has been removed. Utilities supervisors say this is very near the depth of water mains and water service laterals and is the likely cause of the many freeze ups. The ground remains frozen well after the air temperature warms. Weston officials say it may be necessary to keep water running well into spring. Customer’s water bills will be adjusted.
