STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- With many schools closed due to the extremely cold weather, you might be surprised to know there’s places that are still open and focussing on youth activities. One of them is the Boys and Girls Club of Portage County in Stevens Point and Plover.
Nicholas Reising is one of the directors, and says if sitting around the house while school is out doesn’t sound fun, it’s a good time to check out the club’s activities. “Arts and crafts, billiards, some athletic events such as ping pong and things like that, cooking clinics making snacks throughout the day, we’ll play some video games here and there, computer games and whatnot. We also have the rec center open, which allows the school students to engage in organized sports. That would be basketball, volleyball, a little badminton, anything of that nature.”
Reising suggests checking out their website or calling 715-341-4386 to find out what is going on at each of the three locations.
Check with other Boys and Girls Clubs for additional opportunities on these no-school days.
