STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- Another central Wisconsin man has been charged with sex crimes after an online police sting operation.
39-year-old Ryan Cevan from rural Stevens Point has been charged with causing a child between 13 and 18 years old to view sex and also using a computer to facilitate a sex crime.
Investigators say Cevan sent several nude photos of himself to detectives posing as a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl. Shawano County investigators caught Cevan when he responded to a Wausau Craigslist ad from an adolescent boy seeking sex, but the ad was placed by investigators.
Even though Cevan has no prior felonies or misdemeanors, the detectives were able to use the FBI’s facial recognition software to identify him from the many photos he sent electronically to the officers posing as a teenager.
The arrest was made June 18th at Cevan’s Town of Dewey home on Sunset Drive but the charges were just recently filed. Cevan is free on a $10,000 cash bond. He will be back in court July 28th.
If convicted, Cevan could spend up to 40 years in prison and pay up to $100,000 in fines.
